I had great luck by picking out the diamond @ BlueNile.com and having it put in the Victorian setting she was gaga over. It appraised and is insured for over twice what I have in it.

You can have my wife's. But you may not want it, if it is where I told her to put it

My wife & I watched the movie Blood Diamond several months before we got engaged...after watching it she said she didn't want a diamond but rather wanted a lab grown sapphire. That movie saved me thousands! Oh and I went to Jareds...for what its worth shopping at Americus Diamond was the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my entire life.

I can't agree with this one, If I bought a girl a ring and she didn't like it, I'd start looking for another girl to marry.

IMO pick a loose stone then have it put into a setting you like. Much better value.

I made the mistake of letting my wife pick out her rings....$$$$$$$. On the other hand, she still likes them many years later.

                        Better go to Jared's!

I haven't got a clue, been 37 years since I bought an engagement ring. Several great stores out there, find you a great ring and a great deal and go with it.

                        Congrats on your engagement.
