BVM Have you read into Dr. Kroll's research?

“Studies repeatedly have shown that whitetail bucks do not reach maturity until four years of age, and by the time the bucks in our study had reached 4 1⁄2, there was no significant difference in any of the antler measurements, no matter what the buck started out with his first year. The antlers were just as wide, just as heavy and had just as many points. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in gross Boone and Crockett (B&C) score for the bucks,” he says.

          for example....
you have two girls, born on the same day, but one was premature....
one is likely to have a bigger rack at an earlier age....does this mean the rack on the premature one is always gonna be smaller? surely not....run that by your biologist and she what she says....
i am in this camp!!! and if born to a younger doe or a doe that is in poorer condition due to this droubt

so this year everyone is seeing way more spikes than ever...it has been posted a hundred times this year.....do all these places all of a sudden have bad genetics?

O.K. there are other studies done besides Mr. Deer. Just thought ya'll would all know about his research.

At the end of the day we all have opinions, I just like to base mine off data....others base it field observation or opinion, but either way you should stay open to research and properly done studies --it is partly the reason we know as much as we do.

Know matter how many hours you sit in a blind making observations, if you don't eliminating the variables, they are just opionions that can lead you to wrong answer.

            No study is ever perfect.

Whoa Nelly... I like them aged 6 months with a little milk dripping from their chin. Pull out the BOOMstick for tenderizing and fold'em up!

I would say if you see a spike with 3 inch bases, shoot him grave yard dead. anything smaller let him go and see if you can find him next year. maybe shoot him with a paint ball or something after he sheds to see how he does.

                  no joke

i dont care what you do with your spikes, and if you think that biologist knows everything then thats your choice....but thats like saying the president knows it all....

those studies have been picked apart also, alot of corrupt data....

before yall go gettuin defensive, ask the guys on here who let the spikes walk....these are the same guys growing and killing monster deer every year....proven fact....

i simply gave you a different scenario, so those of you who are gullable enough to believe what a biologist says, just because they are a biologist, would understand....i have met some very good biologist, and i have met some that have no business being one!!

and dont complain about not having the number of good mature deer as others when you shoot your spikes!!

Actually did not mean to get into a debate. I usually just sit quite and read the post.

Just thought I would put a Biologists opinion up there since I did not see it earlier.

You have to give some merit to Biologists, you can't say you are smarter than all of them...it kind of like saying you are smarter than all the doctors and surgeons too

like i said, and you just said....no study is perfect....and if you think those not only on this forum get their info just from sitting in a blind observing deer then your mistaken....i cannot speak for everyone here but i do know most of the guys that grow big deer and own their own hunting ranches have plenty of time behind a computer, a desk, a book, beside a biologist, in biology classes, yada yada....your not eleminating all the variable before you argue your explanation....and it is leading you to a wrong answer
