I see quite a few deer on our powerlines at the ranch. The ROW's have grown up but the cedar isnt as dense as some of the other areas. After the season we are going to start clearing the ROW's 40-50 yards wide. I was thinking about sticking a tripod right up next to one of the poles which would help break up a silouette(sp). Thoughts? Any health issues related to spending 3-4 hourse right under a powerline?

I hunt a powerline on my place. It hasn't caused any problems to me and Dr. D. Well...maybe...I think we cause our own problems. It's fun to sit and watch a long strip in the thick cedars. ALL animals use it to move. Try hollowing out the middle of a cedar and bowhunting from it. Also, see how far you can drop a yote or a pig with a rifle. Fun! Fun!

the actual ROW is maintained by the owner of the utility and they have rights to do whatever it takes to keep the fire hazards to a minimum(read as your stuff will be removed or run over). however right off the ROW is fine, and should be a good traffic crossing area. its a giant sendero after all

The powerline is a great place to hunt. It has an outdoor facility too.

I saw a news report once where a reporter held a 4' flourescent light bulb in his hands under a power line at night. They shut off the camera lights and the bulb just flickered away like it was connected to a bad ballast. Their point was to criticize some play grounds that were built under or near power lines. They didn't have any science to prove it was damaging, but the light glowing was weird.
