    Bow time

    Hey guys and gals,

So I mentioned in my intro that I wanted to get into bow hunting asap. Watching Dad hunt with a bow for a few years now really makes me want to take my hunting to the next level. My question for all the bow hunters out there:

What's an ideal woman's bow and are there any suggestions on what to look for/what to stay away from?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and Gig 'em!

I would recommend a Martin Jaguar...small, light, wide range of draw weight. I sure like mine and think my wife would be just fine shooting it too. You could find one 5-6 yrs old that has lots of life left in it for pretty cheap, around $200 I'd suspect.

I would recommend you shoot a variety of brands. Let the bow choose you. Everyone is different in stature, strength, etc..., so when ol' Cleeter from TBH says, "Aw shucks, just go buy you a Mathews 'cus my wife has one", that's not necessarily sound advice!!

Now don't get me wrong, ol' Cleeter may be right and we appreciate his recommendation. However, Ms. Cleeter prolly isn't your body double!!

Most important, as many will agree, is to try out several different brands, and pick the one that feels best and most comfortable for YOU. Most bow shops will let ya shoot a few. Don't just go out and buy one and "settle". Good luck to you!!! ;-)

FND was faster on the typing than I was!!! Lol

              My two cents worth

It is great if you can shoot a variety of bows as the guys said; however, most pro shops don't carry a bow that a girl can shoot- they are too long or too high of a draw weight.

Start by finding out what your draw length is and let us know. That will make big difference as to what I would recommend. If you are short and have a draw length less than 26" I would recommend a bow that is completely different than if you were tall and have a draw length of more than 27".

Typically though, with shorter draw lengths you can do quite well with any bow that has a short axle to axle (less than 30"); longer draw lengths do better with longer a-a because they less likely to torque as much.

I am 5'6 and I shoot 27" draw length. I can shoot a variety of bows, but tend to stay away from bows that are less than 31" axle to axle.
