I can fix it! It's all the landowner's fault. Cost of deer leases is 1000x too high. Take away all trespassing signs and remove all high fences. Free hunting for everyone anywhere = more licenses sold = more revenue.
Oh well, just a thought. I did drive through East Texas one time.

We Went to Lake Summerville-Birch creek state park in August. What they said they were battling is true. We got a couple spots that normally would have been in high demand. We gambled taking the boat and at least half the lake was unusable, we did get it in the water and ran aground once trying to go towards the dam of all things. We value the state parks because of the cleanliness of the bathromms and shower facilities compared to a lot of private parks. Also, as a general rule, the spots are more shaded, and further away from your nieghbors, there are obviously exceptions. Compared to a lot of private parks people respect the noise ordinances or maybe it is enforced better.
Regarding the drinking in the parks. discretion is your friend. As long as you don't advertise what you are doing you are not breaking any laws.

I support TPWD and just made a donation. I think they do an incredible amount of good and was happy to make a donation in this time of need

if you are consuming it in public (no matter what the container looks like) your breaking the law. Gotta be in the tent or camper to NOT be breaking the public comsumption law within the state parks. Not advertising what your doing will keep you from getting caught (sometimes), but it won't keep you from breaking the law.

Texas State Parks are great! but this is not the first time the state has had drought conditions and lots of fires around some of their state parks. I promise you that the drought and fires are not what has put TPWD budget in a hurt. It has been the straw that broke the camels back as far as the TPWD Parks budget goes. Any big business should be managed financially to take hits like the fires/drought have caused this year into consideration in their budget, ESPECIALLY when the cause of those particular hits are something they can not control (mother nature)

            correct, I mis-spoke.

but my point remains the same. for the purposes of the intent of the code of conduct.

And I completely agree about their budget. wise folks on here

We buy our state park pass every year and use it a lot. Great way to spend time with family and friends in the great outdoors.

Guys one thing not pointed out here is that parks-Law Enforcement - Wildlife and the other divissions are not all funded from one pot of money. So your license fees do not go to parks. As with any agency there is probably waste that could be cut.

Also whoever said you can hunt out of state for less is full of it. One tag for Elk is 564 in Colorado, 480 for 1 deer in Kansas, 565 for one deer in iowa, 280 I think ik oklahoma for 1 deer. Not that this $$$ would go to parks anyway.

These land purchases are from special funds and donations many of the time and the money can not be spent for anything else.

The Leg controls the budget for the most part.

All I know is Ft.Griffin in Albany (Formerly a State Park) re-organized under the Texas Historical Commision in 2008.

Not sure why they did it, but the park fees went up, and the park made numerous improvements. We stay there every year for 3 months.

For those in the know, is this something happening at other State Parks? Is this a budget related move to preserve a parks funding?

Not exactly. Most of the state historic sites were transferred to THC in 2008 and with it went more money than TPWD had ever been given to run the sites. As a result, it was a good improvement for those parks. Recreational parks also received a boost in funding and some improvements were made, then the economy tanked and that funding got yanked (and then some).

seems like I read an article last year that was titled something like "TPWD can balance their own check book" The jist of the story if I remenber right was that there was millioooons of dollars that could not be aaccounted for and they did not know where it went and what it was spent on. hummmm!

I'm sure no organization is perfect. I'm also sure that there are some good people in TPWD trying to do it right. Bottom line is we are all probably better off with them, rather than without them and because of this I believe support MUST be the order of the day. Please pass the word.
