I was skeptical at first about using diesel, thought they were playing a trick on me, kind of like "snipe" hunting, lol. But I tried it anyway, and it works! I don't understand why, but it does. If you'll pour some diesel on a nearby post or tree they'll rub on it and it helps hold them there a little while longer. The best part is that the racoons and squirrels will leave it alone. If it's gone when you check it, it's hogs! We've been hunting hogs a long time, always year round, I've noticed that it's kind of a seasonal thing on there day time movements. Mostly nocturnal, but certain times seem to be active at dawn and dusk, usually doesn't last long though. Try the night hunting, it's a blast, especially with bow!
It works like a creosote pole. The pigs know that if they ingest it that it will help prevent ticks from the inside out. Pigs rub on pines, poles and eat diesel corn. Deer won't touch it!
What works for me may not work for you but who knows? I use jello mix with bud light beers mixed in with corn but they do pattern that real fast when they know that once hogs gets taken down right after that, they may get spooked every time you put it out as it happened to me. They pattern things fast. I stopped using it. I've heard hunters swears by diesel and crestone, doesn't hurt to try that, too.
I do notice that the colder it gets, they get more comfortable to come out even earlier times than they usually do. During summer time, they come out around 11 at night up until 6 a.m. as the time goes on into fall, they come in at 9 until 8 a.m. I have several different group of hogs that comes in so they take turns at the feeder.
Last weekend, they came in at 6:30 p.m. this gives you an idea how their patterns are as the weather gets colder.
I used Solar Motion Sensor light (50.00 at Home Depot) mounted on my feeder, it lets me know that something has tripped the sensor for me to glass the feeder area, the only problem is, during overcast days, it will drain the battery quickly and will not light up at night time. When that happens, I put up E.W.T. feeder light, it works dang good for me, the light output is good enough for me to hunt 135 yards out from the feeder.
Good luck in everything you do, post up the ldp's when you finally take one down!
I've tried just about all the suggestions and they still won't come out in the daytime for me. My neighbor, however, has kilt 26 since Oct ALL in the daytime.
