Moultrie M80, am I missing something?

I got one of these cameras back on the 21st, set it out and it worked fine, took pics like it should. I only had 4 double a's that I had on hand, after those went dead I put 8 brand new double a's in there. I didn't change any settings that I remember. Now it won't take pictures when it's in sleep mode, I think is what you would call it? When I turn it on, after the 30 second countdown it has taken my picture when I'm getting back in my truck. Lastnight I even waved my hand, pulled the card, checked my picture, it was there. Did that twice thought it was working, so I left it on. I know I had hogs and deer cause I spread lots of corn out and it was gone. Brought it in the house tonight and I can watch the screen after the 30 second countdown, it'll take a pic and as long as the camera is "awake" I can watch it countdown the 60 second delay and it will take another pic, but it won't ever take a pic if it goes into sleep mode.

    am I missing something?

Mine hasn't had that problem so I am not sure what is going on. Sounds weird...

mine works great. You may want to go into the menu and just reset all the settings. Who knows... swapping batteries may have triggered something. shouldn't have... but stranger things have happened.

if all else fails call Moultrie.

Don't know what model they are using but a couple on my lease discovered the Moultrie SD cards won't work in the Moultrie camera. Any other sd card works fine except the Moultries. Bad batch of cards maybe?

Is there a hard reset button? Might try that, reset to defaults, the reprogram. Shouldn't have to do this every time you change batteries, but maybe when you switched from 4 to 8 batteries, something went FUBAR.

i'll try some of the above, I got a PM saying some of their cameras were doing the same thing. Glad to know it's not just me.

I took a cam back bc it gave me similar problems and I'm sitting here with a brand new one and can't get it to even go to the menu screen.......errrrrr

a galfrom moultrie told me that if you are using a SD card that has been used in any other type of device, cameras or whatever, the m-80 wont recognize it or somehting like that. she sent me a program to download onto the camera to fix it. email moultrie.

When it was working the other day I remembered I had the photo quality on medium and after I put new batteries in I changed it to low, that's when it stopped taking pics when it was in sleep mode. This morning I set it back to medium and it took 49 pictures inside the house. Im going to play with it through out the day today and see.

                          Hey Micah,

I had 1 Moultrie D40 that did that only after about 2 weeks after being in the field. It would eat up a set of batteries in no time; and wouldn’t wake from sleep mode. It is the only Moultrie I have had problems with, out of the over one dozen that I have.

When I contacted Moultrie they had me check to see if the internal memory was full, and it was not, since I clear it every time I pull the cards. So they had me send it in, and sent me back a brand new cam. And they had the new cam to me within 6 days after they received the defective cam.

You can also look your cam up on the”Chasin Game “website; and it will tell you what problems have been encountered with it. That way you can see if this is a re-occurring problem with that particular cam.

                          Hope This Helps,
                          Tuco

Well thats what it was, it won't come out of sleep mode on low quality. I put in on low and let it set for an hour and the only pic it took of when it was doing the 30 second countdown, nothing after that. Put it back on medium and got 33 pictures, some were 15 minutes apart so I know it came out of sleep mode.

What is the battery life like on medium versus low mode? Don't know if I will take it back over that unless its a real battery drainer.

The D40 takes 6 double d’s, and would last for thousands of pics on one set of batteries. But that is using Energizer, like they suggest.(as far as modes, I don't know)

It should function correctly in any mode....Anyway..

I have had the worst luck with Duracell batteries in and type of hunting device.

The battery consumption on my bad cam far out weighted my good cams even though it wasn’t taking pics.

If you are not happy with it ,send it back.

Just send the cam back in its original packaging with the receipt and they will probably send you back a new cam.

The sooner you do it, the sooner you get a functioning cam back in the field……
