    I have a ????

I shot a buck this past Friday. He has been on ice every since he has been cleaned which is about a day and a half. my wife decided she was goin to cook some fried back strap for dinner. Well she cooks one piece and we both try it like we always do to make sure everything taste right. Well it was nasty I have never tasted deer so nasty before. We even went as far as getting the other back strap and doin the same thing and it was the same way. She called her dad to see what he thinks and said that he has had to throw alot of deer away this year cz of that reason (he guides on a few ranches in the hill country, west Texas, and south Texas). He is blaming it on the drought, that the deer are getting infections and paracites that you may not be able to see and it spoiling the meat. So my question is, have any of you guys had this problem this year? I love deer meat and the gamie taste doesn't bother me or my wife, so its not that and I feel bad for having to waste it but it is truly nasty and I can't figure it out.

by "on ice" do you mean you quartered the deer and iced the meat? Or had it hanging in a walk in?

please elaborate on this. I have never heard of anything like this

Did you drain and re-ice everyday? I have had hogs and deer both on ice for just about a week and never had this issue.

The meat went into rigor mortise in the pan, and that would only make it tough - not nasty.....

my dad shot a deer this year that was real poor looking. We decided not to eat it, game warden even agreeed with us. The other two deer I have killed and ate did taste a little stronger than normal.

No problem here. First deer this year was a mature buck that was quartered and in ice for 3 days. Backstraps were awesome. And our lease was about as dry as it gets.

Yes I quarterd the deer as I always do and immediately washed off and put on ice. I leave the drain cap loose so it drains on its own. Again I have no ideas as to what it could be I've never had this happen before.
