My two stepsons went thru the TSTC welding school in Waco. It is a really good school & they have a good reputation for producing welders. The down side is that welding jobs are kind of hard to find right now. It should pick up by next summer but no guarantees. Most of the power plant jobs that employed my boys are on hold until the companies see what happens with the Presidential elections.
Just be prepared to travel. Have a bag packed & always be ready to leave within 24 hrs or less. Travel light, be prepared to put up with lots of BS since you will be the low man on the job, & work hard. Most jobs are 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, until they are finished. BANK YOUR PAYCHECK & don't fall for the "gotta have these goodies now that I have $$$ in my pocket" syndrome.
Good luck.

I have two degrees from TSTC, I hold an Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance Mechanics and Electrical Systems Technology. To say that the education I got at that college has helped me in my career would be an understatement every company that I have worked for I used some if not all that I learned there. Its one of the main reasons I work for Samsung in Austin at this time.
In order to receive my degree in maintenance major I was required to take some welding classes, although I knew some of what they taught me I did pick up a lot of great info that I still use today. Also the access to the testing equipment for the beads that you ran in lab was a great way to show you your mistakes and how to correct them. They were constantly adapting to the needs of each industry and the welding department was one of the best at it.
I would recommend that school to anyone.
