I don’t know about the direct hook-up, but if you had a modem hooked up to your desktop, for a laptop; that would work.

Other than that, just spend the money & get the 3G….

(I would guess that nook has to be 3G too.)
I have never been to a starbucks. I think I'll ask Santa for the 3G

      That’s funny G……

I haven’t either,(to get a 5$ cup of joe), but my Sister is a Starbucks fan, so I go in & get her gift cards now & then….

Something tells me you can persuade Santa without much problem G, whether you’ve been Naughty OR Nice…..

Go Nook - more available book formats, not being limited to Amazon purchasing, and you will be able to get google books, B & N, and many other formats, many being free.

Get basic B & W Nook if the primary use is for reading, suggesting only the wi-fi if you have it in home. Load as many books on reader as you desire so you don't have need to download on the fly. Get a 8 or 16 gig micro SD HD card installed for $20 and load over 4,000 books if you desire. I sure that will keep you into books to read. Color is not needed for reading books.

If you want something to use beyond books / reading go to something like an i-pad

I just ordered the Fire for Linda. (She thinks she's getting the basic) We have WI-FI at home so it should work for her.

Nook Basic gets it done. The battery lasts very long. Better reading in most lighting situations.

I ordered a kindle fire for courtney for her birthday...it finally got delivered today.

It is pretty slick - considering one of the e-ink ones for my kid for Christmas

                And McDonald's has free wifi.....

One thing to consider (I'm not positive about the new ones so somebody set me straight here), one thing I liked about the Nook over the Kindle was the user replaceable battery. When I bought mine the Kindle required it to be sent in for replacement. That may have changed. With my Nook I can get a replacement battery from Batteries Plus if I ever need one.

The Nook I have is the basic one and it has been great. It has WiFi but also has 3G for buying books and the 3G is free if used for that purpose.

One thing to consider... How will use it? If it's only at home, any of them will work. If you want to use it on stand, where you may have on gloves, get one with easy to use page turning. Touchscreen may or may not work for you. The one I have has fairly large buttons on each side that are quiet but easy to use with light gloves.

My wife has the new Nook and loves it she also has a kindle too, each has it positives and negatives, she likes the variety of books that each company offers, I have the el cheapo Nook and it works great in the stand or the blind and definately passes the time waiting for something to shoot. My oppinion is this just like a bow "shoot what feels good to YOU" and then go from there with options and accessories. Just my 2 cents.

my wife and I both have the basic Kindle with WIFI. My wife and daughter
have their's on the same account so they can trade books free, since they
have the same taste. Mine is on my own account. I would get the 3G if
I were going to do it over.

you can hook them to your computer USB, but the WIFI works better. just
get a WIFI router for about 50 bucks.
