    Scope for AR

I don't know much about scopes so I am looking for advice from those with experience. I want a scope that will only me to shoot coyotes out to 500 yds and can pick up light well. Which scope should I look for? Also I don't want to spend over $300.
    Thanks, Sam

There are some OK scopes out there for that price range, but your demands are a little on the heavy side. I've always been of the mind that a good rifle deserves better optics. Most of the optics on my guns cost more than the gun itself.

Don't forget the importance of good scope rings. Lap them if you can. Cheap scope rings can damage the scope by putting uneven pressure and also are more liable to cause a loss of zero.

For yotes I like to have an adjustable optic that goes from a 4x minimum to at least a 12x maximum for out to 500. The easiest way to get good light transmission is to get the biggest objective lense you can. Don't go smaller than 40mm. Most you find in that range will have a 40mm...you'll have to spend more to go bigger. I'm a fan of Nikon and Leupold for clarity. I don't have a lot of experience with the mid price range scopes, but that should get you a good start.

Other features I like are finger adjustable turrets, and I would make sure clicks are 1/4 or 1/8 MOA. At long ranges, you'll appreciate the finer tuning. Coated lenses will prevent fogging.

Check out the Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40. Has an elevation turret just for situations like that. $299 Excellent Scope!! And I bought my last one at Academy.

This leupold is nice, but has 1/2 MOA adjustment, which I personally think is too large an adjustment for long range shooting. If you're a quarter inch off the mark at 100, at 500 that means you'll get no better than an inch and a quarter from the mark.

This leupold has a 50mm objective lens (same scope as above other than that)...$50 more but better light transmission.

This leupold also has a 50mm obj lens, and the finer 1/4 MOA adjustment, but ony goes to 9x...should be fine.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/314...icle-matteThis Nikon has 1/4 MOA adjustment and goes 9x. Not as good as 12, but still plenty of power to place an accurate shot at long range.

Great choice if this is going on an AR, but I don't put a ton of faith in the BDC reticles. I have one on my ACOG and it's not perfect. BDC's depend on a specific barrel length and bullet weight. I don't shoot standard 55 grain bullets, and my AR has a 16" barrel, not a 20", so I get a little more drop.

Not sure what you are looking for , but the AR-15 5.56 will drop 15 inch at 300 , so you better look for a mil dot scope.. center point brand at walmart is around 80 dollars. cheap and aint bad for the money..

Look at the Nikon M223SF 3x12x42. You can find them on Amazon in your price range.

You might look into Vortyx as well. PM Arrowsmith on here and he can help you out.

Bowmansam, check out sampleslist.com. It is an outlet of SWFA. http://www.samplelist.com/
They sale floor model and demo model scopes that have been refurbished by the manufacturer. I bought a Nikon Buckmaster 4x12x50 for $283.57.
That scope retails for $360 at Cabelas. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shoot...0#productChart

I've been very happy with it - love the larger 50mm objective. And I got more scope for my money by buying from sampleslist.
