    College major question

Im going to be attending A&M Kingsville this fall and I want to pursue a career as a Wildlife Biologist. I dont know if I should major in Ranch Management, Ranch and Wildlife Management, Wildlife Science, or Biology?
    Any tips or suggestions?

If you want to be a biologist I would go with Wildlife Science. Take all the plant taxonomy classes you can.

had a buddy go there for a degree in ranch managment. ended up just studying beer and fishing and dropped after a year. wasted a bunch of money.

I got a wildlife degree from what was then Southwest TX (now TX State). Agree with Centex Aggie, learn your plants. Wildlife management starts from the ground up in my opinion. The good thing about college is that you don't have to declare a major as soon as you enroll, I would talk to the big dogs at Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (CKWRI) and let them guide you as to what you should major in. Get involved with The student chapter of The Wildlife Society and maybe even the Range Society. Don't concentrate on just one wildlife species, be well rounded and get as much field experience as possible. Use the King and Kenedy Ranches as your playgrounds if possible. This field is extremely competitive and anything you can do to make yourself better.....do it. Good luck

Well i would say biology. Im guessing you are going to be a freshman and most freshman change what they want to be/major in when they graduate. Biology allows you to jump in the job market.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I was thinking about going with the Wildlife Science degree at first but then I saw all the others and got confused. Muy Grande, what you said makes sense but my sights are set and Im not looking to change them for something else, im just trying to find which degree would be most beneficial. Thanks for the advice Centex Aggie and thanks for the resources and advice Blackmouth.
