All these New Mexico draw results have me wishing I would have put in for NM elk too. I have only hunted Colorado OTC units in years past and like to learn an area by hunting the same area for several years. Maybe I can change that mindset and put in for a good NM unit next year and try something new (if I'm lucky enough to get a tag).
Congrats to those who were successful, and to the rest there's always Colorado OTC !

I had never seen them until ragin sent me a pic last week. They look super similar to the solids which I really liked the design but they have a weak spot and I broke a bunch.

Look at Levi Morgan. He has killed a ton of big critters with the swhackers. I would want to be shooting 420+ grains.
Here is my honest thoughts on elk and broadheads. I will always have 3 fixed blade heads and two mechanical heads in my quiver. In my opinion
There is no reason you have to choose one.
If I am calling elk or feel I can get within 60 yards I will have the fixed blade locked and loaded no questions asked. The one thing that worries me with a mechanical is the frontal or quartering to shot if calling.
If I stalk in and have a bull perfectly still broadside/quartering away at 70-100 and I feel I can make the shot I will shoot the mechanical. Also follow up shots past 60 the mechanical is a good choice.
Ps these are just my thoughts. I have killed a bull moose but no elk so I'm not claiming to be an expert.

My honest opinion it doesn't matter. I don't think penetration or momentum is even noticed in real hunting situations between 375-450 grains. Once you break the 500-600 grain barrier is where you will novice some improvement.
A lot of the Ashby stuff doesn't even matter unless your shooting a single bevel. The rotation is what is splitting bone. So shooting 650 grains and heavy foc by itself isn't enough.
I would test both setups and see what flys best. Hitting your spot is more important than anything.
