Maybe. I am more pessimistic than you are about getting the tags. I apply in KY, PA, CO, ID, MT, NM, AZ and UT. I have for the past 10 years. I have drawn 1 elk tag in CO. I love the area we hunt in MT on OTC tags so no real reason for me to pursue cashing in my points right now is part of the reason.

I expect to draw one or two sheep tags in my lifetime.

If i wanted to I could alternate cashing in mule deer/elk points for a few years and make it last 5 or 6 years I guess on mid tier units. So maybe you are right. I am just kinda fed up with forking money over and never drawing anything and states like WY not allowing me to hunt on wilderness land and New Mexico pretty much eliminating diy nonresidents.

I will always be a mid tier unit hunter in most states. Az and Nevada are Hail Mary states for elk and deer. But Colorado I am going to draw a deer tag every 2-3 years and a elk tag every 4-5. Wyoming will be a state that I won't hunt very much most likely. But when I get 8-10 I will cash in on a good archery unit even tho I know it won't be top tier. Utah actually has some really good general deer tags that my buddy was telling me about. I expect to draw a goat tag in Montana and Colorado before I die. Hoping for a few sheep tags but we will see.

I am one of those people that is just as happy with a 160 buck as a 200 and Though I want a 350 bull in my life I'm shooting a 300 every time. Ha. We're about on the same page.

That was my original plan but point creep is making me rethink it, I looks at statistics from several states in 2010 and compared to this year most all of them are going up, partly because more people have figured out how to apply for them.

I ordered this tent on Friday night. It is the new company replacing Go Lite. So this is essentially the old Shangri-La 5 which was an awesome floorless shelter. I am pumped about this thing. It is exactly what I was needing for Solo/2 man hunting and half the price of the Kifaru and Seek Outside shelters I was looking at.

That looks like a solid shelter, what options from Kifaru were you looking at?

I have been eyeing the same one. I just wish it had the partial nest similar to the Seek Outside. If you wouldn't mind, could you give a brief review after a couple uses?

I love my old SL5, I'll never get rid of that sucker.. It's strange they call it a pyramid, it's definitely more of a tipi.. I like the Cimmarron a little bit better if using just the tarp (mainly the double doors) BUT the nest for the SL5 is so big & handy.. I hate small nests, I get claustrophobic.. And ya, it was cheap! Pretty big for a solo shelter though.. Takes up a surprising amount of backpack space, although weight on the tarp only is pretty light.. I solo shelter it when I "car camp" but I'm a little scared to take it some places I backpack. Alot of times I can't find a place to camp that's flat enough for the footprint..

I have what I think of as the BPWD version of the tut that I bought way before the tut came out, basically their Pyratent with the door on the side. I actually had him custom make it but later he added it as an actual option. When I go solo and floorless, it's my go-to tent.. I don't think I could make the dimensions better if I tried (for me at least).. The height is perfect for a maxed out trekking pole. The sleeping area length and width is perfect and roomy. The other side of the pole (by the door) has tons of room for gear. The best part by far is how easy it is to setup (something most people don't think about, including me up until recently). Stake four corners and shove a pole in it, DONE. No adjusting. Pyramids rock! The last thing I want to do after driving/hiking/hunting all day is mess with a super tarp or something with 12+ guylines and beating 12+ stakes into the ground in the dark on uneven ground with hard soil.. Ain't no one got time for that! I just want to eat my MH and crash..

                    Here's my SL5 vs Pyratent:

I'm waiting on May to see if either my son or I drew in KY. I put in for both bull or cow, bow and rifle. Put in the same for my son, to include the youth. This may be my last year in KY since Uncle Sam decided I needed another stripe and a diamond, so we should be leaving KY right after deer season. Good luck to everyone waiting on the draws!
