Spoke with a ranger today about some drainages and he told me to bring my snowshoes, my 4 day scouting trip may be pushed from mid June to July. Nothing like winter camping in June.

The good news is though that all that rain/snow should keep things mighty green and allow the elk to pack on some good size (body and antler)

Anybody ever hunted NM unit 16c in the Gila? My cousin i both drew first archery season, looking for pointers...

I have never hunted 16c, but I have hunted 16a a couple of times. I would find some well used water holes for the first part of the season, and by the end of the season the bulls should be fired up. If your not real picky you should have a problem killing a bull. Good luck!

I'm excited that the Gila is having above average rainfall; should be great for antler growth. But I'm also nervous about it ruining the waterhole hunting!

Won't know until I get there. Planning on hunting the whole 14 day season, so hopefully can adapt. Will be backpacking in away from roads. Gonna hold out for a mature bull.

Anybody have any info on road conditions in that unit? Trying to decide if I need to take my utv with me.

That country dries up fast, dont worry about the water holes they should be good. Chase the rutting bulls in the morning, hunt water in the afternoon. Take your utv, and a chain saw, they will come in handy.

Lots of folks on TBH, including myself, have hunted 52. Great unit for numbers and scenery. 260 - 300 class bulls are likely what you will see. I hunted muleys up there in 2010, but saw more elk than muleys. Let me know if you have questions.

We were thinking about backpacking in somewhere. I have seen elk on the southern portion near the highway, was thinking we needed to go in deeper.

Can anyone give me info on gmu 75 or 751 during the last two weeks of archery season? What should I expect as far as hunter density, are there a large number of outfitters in the area? Does the orange army come out during muzzle loader season?

Unsuccessful Colorado draw! Put in 3rd & 4th rifle antlerless and did not get either one! Bummer. Now for the leftover draw and last result will be OTC.

Drew Utah! It would be tough to hunt both this year. My daughter Aspen drew a cow tag though! Looking forward to her first elk hunt!

We have 3 month and we will be ELK huntin. Cant freakin Wait!! Who is hunting NM 15 2nd season this year? I will be there 15th thru 24th. I talked to a friend that lives there, he said they have been getting rain once or twice a week and the elk are GIANT this year, If the rain continues it should be one of the best years they have ever had.
