have you ever used the hand held units?

    do you recommend one?

Any rental shop should have either the singel or 2 person units. Works good in most dirt, excpet when it hits rocks or roots and then they can get really dangerous by binding up and throwing the person or person running them and they can put some hurt on your hands and wrists when thye do hit a rock or root.

Eat your Wheaties and buy a couple bottles of Advil. The one I got a hold of smooth wore me out and it was just sand a clay. Hell, it hurt to breathe for 3 days and I was sore for over a week.
You'll realize how out of shape you are after using one.

Best part is they are geared lower so they won't jerk ya around real bad. but it'll be a work out for sure !!

the good part is, doing all this work, I have lost 30 pounds this year. Blood pressure is much better too! Havent fenced since I was a kid, reminds me of all the time out there with my dad, rest his soal.

THanks I will go to the rental place down the road and pick one up.

Be careful, as others have said those handheld ones can and will hurt you bad

We used one down on a creek bottom that the tractor wouldn't get to. 5 HP honda engine on top of an auger bit with handles sticking off both sides. That thing wore me and my buddy out digging through undisturbed black dirt and some caliche clay. My buddy and I litterally put all our weight on the thing, our feet not even touching the ground, with my dad and brother stabilizing us from behind. We had a shade over 400 lbs of down force on it, running full throttle, and it would just shave the dirt away downhole. But it worked.

I've had mixed results. The bit wouldn't cut into the soil at all, but the side of it can do some damage to your shin. Wasn't where I was needing the post. That thing was very un-accurate. My leg wasn't where I was aiming at all.
