This morning was the highlight of my life I had my ten point buck that I have seen on the trail cam in my sights! He had no idea I was there or a rage was about to come flying at him! I line up dropped the trigger, he sunk a little I hit high on his shoulder I figured with the rage I would have at least gotten a nick of his lungs. I waited about 45 mins and went out...found my arrow clean pass through hair, meat stuck in the rage broad head, goo all over the arrow hair and a little blood on my feathers!?!? No blood on the ground,no blood with in 20yds of the shot...I backed out called in the reinforcements we looked for six hours now....nothing. This would have been my first whitetail bow kill. I never knew the pit of my stomach could be so knotted up now...I hope I missed his spine and lungs and he recovers, but I doubt it...he was a beautiful 10 pt 5.5 yr old with 15/16" spread..I hope I see him again I know it was a pass though it peeled my wrap back a bit....I'm going to stick with the bow for this season, even tho I lost this one the shot was the most epic shot innate ever taken! Between heart beats and everything in slow motion and the crack of the broad head hitting, bow hunting simply amazing

Should I let the spot cool? Or even with all the foot traffic go sit again in the morning?

Guess I got a stupid question too, when an arrow connects is it loud!? It sounded like I shot my arrow into a tree and it shattered.I found my arrow In one peice 3ft away from where it hit the deer...or what that the rage slapping open?

I have heard my rages "tick" when hitting, but if it was loud, you may have just nicked the spine or broken a rib. Sorry to hear it, but it happens.

Probably hit all that boney growth above the spine which accounted for the loud noise, I guess its part of the vertabrae but don't really kniow. A guy on our lease hit one high like that and commented how loud it was when it hit. The buck was back at the same feeder 3 days later. He keeps getting him on camera but doesn't show up when he is in his stand. I think the buck has him figured out. I guess just like you he sent him to Rage College for higher learning.

Don't get too bummed out. He will be back. Aim for the heart and never lower...if he drops you still get double lung, if he doesn't you still win! Good luck!
