Allaround...Thanks for the Leather work Help!!!!

I have finally gotten back from New Mexico hunt and Ms/Alabama archeological dig and can post pics. This is the Calf Holster that Allaround helped me make before our New Mx elk hunt. We didnt have a pattern (template) to go from so he just drew one out and we built it together! It worked really really well, stayed on my calf, was easy to get to , and the packhorse' leadrope didnt get all tangled up in my holster. In the photo, you can see it was put to good use. After wearing it for 3 weeks and dragging pack horses, I have a few tweeks to make when I make another one, but this one has been GREAT!!!!!! It never slipped down when loping and trotting and the gun never came out of it. Once brush caught the clip and pulled it up, that was all. Thanks Allaround!

Good function makes for good form. I like it! The gun is out of the way of pack horse leads, very close to natural hand-drop position for a draw when mounted, and not too bad a draw when afoot with just a slight pick-up of the right foot.

One more thing that this holster would be good for is keeping the handgun holster out of the way of a shoulder slung long gun.

Since the gun is set high on your calf (close to your knee), how much does the weight affect you walking gait off the horse? I have tried ankle holsters and they put too much mass down low near my foot so I really feel it in a bad way when I walk.

                        banzai,

This works better than ankle holster and much better than tucked in the top of my high top boot. I was using a cheep holster tucked in the top of my boot, with dog collar around and above my calf and through that holster, but it really moved allot and I could feel the weight when walking my self(on foot) and really bad when riding faster than a walk. This holster really snuggs up the weight of the gun against my calf and keeps it from from jostling back and fourth.

The best part is, If i get bucked off again, my beautiful gun(clip) will not jab me in the side and do any more real damage, and yes, that happened and was hurt real bad. And, It is on my person if I was to HAVE to walk anywhere.

Good thought about the long gun!

I think the next one I will raise the lower buckle up a scooch. BUT this one is GREAT!!!!

I am bout ready to start working on another one!!!
