    PC/Router Question

I'm having hell keeping my connection to the internet through my Cisco router. It will drop occasionally. Rebooting the router will get me right back up every time. The one odd thing is that TBH never gets disconnected. When every other website won't open, TBH will. I checked my hosts file and I have an entry in there for TBH, so I'm guessing that's the reason. That also may be a clue as to what is going on with my connection and router.

Any ideas before I buy a new router?

    Thanks in advance.

I have DSL through Centurylink. I have to reboot either my router or my airport express thingymabob almost every day. Wish I knew how to fix it.

Just an aside, but y'all did change the router's default password right?!?

Casey, what service are you connecting to on the other side?

Mine tends to do it after I don't use the internet for a few hours. For example..it works fine in the morning, go to work, come home...no internet. Restart everything.

I would get a new network admin before buying a new router ...

I am not familiar with those, but check your settings and make sure your local host is something like:
                  ::1 localhost

Or the ::1 is replaced with the correct IP.

If you have multiple localhost entries, try deleting the ones that don't belong and see what happens.

Make sure to back up your hosts file by copying it and pasting it with a different name. This way you can restore back to square one.

Don't know if it will work, but worth a try.

If you have centurylink's wireless modem and it's the westell 327w call in to their help desk at 1 800 809 1410 and see if you can get the new 7500.

I'm tickled to see you asking a pc question amigo...

Go buy a new router at best buy & return it if it doesn't work

                      It's only money...

Linksys E2000. I have GVTC cable internet.

It just started doing this a month or so ago.

Laptop or pc?? If you can plug a patch cord into it and everything works like it should, then you prolly have a physical problem with the wireless side of the router. The cheaper Cisco routers do this quite often, I've been through three in the last year. They are considered dispensable, might try a new netgear, ours seems to be holding up well and has better rang.

that is called dns...you are having a dns issue...hence the workaround for the hosts file for tbh...remove it from the hosts file and tbh no worky....

what dns do you have set in the router?

it is probably pulling dhcp and that is potentially the problem, that or your isp is wanting to see one and only one and the same one, mac address after their device...if it sees another, it will get all goofy....

set your computer to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for it's dns and see what happens
