Wood for making your own bow

I've been watching videos on youtube on how to make your own bow from a solid piece of wood. Has anyone on here ever tried this? If so, how were your results. I'm looking for a place to get the wood for a project. Does anyone know of a place where I could get a straight 5 to 6 foot piece of hickory or osage orange? Does anyone know of a place where hickory grows in abundance where I could go to cut a tree or 2? Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Osage is said to be great for trad bows

Osage can be had locally and hickory is abundant in east tx. Kevin Breaux makes some trad bows. Send him a PM if you have questions. He lives just down the road from you in Copperas Cove.

My husband is "selfbowman" on here. He builds them all the time. In fact, he hardly ever does anything else. We have some Osage staves on hand, but no hickory. If a selfbow is not what you have in mind and you want to build a laminated bow, contact Rubydog for wood.

I have some good cured osage and elm that I don't need in Waco. (drop the osage down to $50)

If its your first time, try it out on a softer whitewood first, then go to the osage, its tough wood!!
