Wish we could shoot a doe.

I hunt Lavaca county and in gun season it's no does. I've heard a number of guys here make comments about passing on bucks that are close to the 13" rule and just shoot a doe. I sure wish I had that option not to mention that the genetics where I hunt are for narrow racks. I'd like to be able to put some meat on the table. Does any one here know why TPW doesn't allow does? Most everyone I talk to that hunts Lavaca county seems to see plenty of does.

I hunt in lavaca co . This year was weird I only seen 1 mature doe . Last few years I would see 10 or so per hunt . Not sure what happened . All the bucks I seem were young too .

Apply for MLD with the landowner so you can at least a few doe permits.

I hunt family land and it's only 100 acres. I didn't think this is enough to apply plus I was afraid that TPW would make me jump through manangement hoops to get tags.

I hunt in Lavaca county on 17 acres and get one permit. It's easy to get but on the down side you can't shoot your two during bow season.

You can get a permit like stated above. They had doe days in that area years ago and there were areas that were shot out. Between g-pa, 4 sons, and 12 grandkids on 100 acres deer didn't have a chance.

I've asked this before also. You should be able to harvest does with archery equipment statewide throughout the season.

Agreed. My father and brother have 65 acres in Bogota Texas. All the people around them seem to have very small tracks of land like this ranging from 15-75 acre pieces. There are lots of folks there that seem to think that they have a ranch and can bring son n laws, boyfriends, friends, co-workers, etc. etc. on these small pieces of property. Drives me crazy! I have no problem with shooting hogs, but give the deer a change

LAMPS is easier than MLD for doe permits. and coops are even better if you can get the adjoining land owners to get on board with you!
