well as everyone here knows that it snowed quite a bit here in west texas.. my buddy invited me to his ranch soth of midland and told me to just bring my bow so we could track somethin in the snow.. i was excited to say the least... he then informed me i would be hunting the blind that he shot a very very nice deer out of last year and the ranch hand daughter shot a pretty nice ten out of.... i was happy.. i got to the blind early and seein the deer movin already i decided i would set the feeder off when i got there...to my disbeleife the feeder wasnt workin but the deer were somhow eatin the corn still?...i decided to tough it and give it a shot since this has happened to me many times this season already..i put out alot of corn by hand and sat to enjoy the veiw of all the snow for miles..after what seemed like forever a fawn magically appeared under in my window... then a doe.. i coldnt beleive i was seein deer without a workin feeder but hey i was happy..i watched them for about half an hour then they both looked up quick and started gettinn nervous .. that is when a little 2.5-3.5 yr old 8 came in...this is the very first buck i had seen on stand this year .. i thought "man this might be my day after all" guess i jinxed myself...they all came and left several different times over about two hours..and the buck even chased her and did a what them bucks do while ruttin.. and i got to see it all first hand again
it was gettin a little late and i have only shot two does before and they were dropped on the spot with a rifle so i decided i might like a snow filled tracking job...and i have never had to work so hard to get a shot at any deer in my life as i did with this doe.. nshe never came closer than a hard quartering to shot under the feeder.. she spooked once and stayed about 30-35 yards out and i decided i would give it a shot i grinted to stop her completely and she was perfectly broadside and i was 100 percent confident in myslef.. i put my 30 yard pin from my drenaline behond the shoulder and sqeezed one off(now it bein as cold as it was i was lookin like the michelin man all bundled up) at the release the string hit my arrow and she almost touched the ground with her belly
the arrow went exactly were it should have been... but with me bein a beginner herei didnt know she would duck it...i was disappointed until she startedcomin back about 5 minutes later...sweet i get another shot! she repeated the first time and i wasnt goin to make the same mistake twice..i put my 20 yard pin on her and let it fly.. the string still hit my coveralls and the arrow flew good but she stayed put! she didnt duck it therefore i shot under her...
I QUIT! there was no way i was endin anotherarrow to be buried in teh snow so i got out to collect my arrows...she stayed about 50 yards out and watched my the whole time...next time i will know better and will bring her home with me
