My wife's cousin, her husband went with me to the LaRue Tactical Field Day.
We had a blast shooting all of LaRue's AR line, the OBR's and Predatar's.
Finally, I was able to test out my shooting skills on long range. I hit my 500 yards and for the 1000 yds, it was tough with so much wind blowing and I was relying on my spotter (one of the vendor for a scope that was mounted on the rifle) that was next to me. He had a whiteboard with all the recticles, he put an ammo on the recticle he thinks should be the one to aim for. We all only have five shots to shoot. I followed his instruction and the first 4 was not even close and the last one, he put the ammo on the whiteboard on one of the recticle which was 7 recticle down and about 5 and half to left from the crosshair, so you can see how much of a difference there to adjust for the wind and elevation. I took the shot and barely miss over the top maybe two inch! It sure was fun shooting the long range!
They had a top shot, man, that was fun! I noticed on the whiteboard with all the time for the fastest shot. I actually met the guy who had his name on in first place. He was right next to us.
He was a former Army, I can tell he was wounded from the battle. He was just all out humble, good guy. I asked him if the name on the whiteboard was him after seeing him shooting in front of us, Let me tell you, He was fast! He said yes, that's me and I went ahead and talk to him for a little bit. He gave me a pointer on what to do. I didn't win, of course but this guy did with 4.35 seconds! The closest one was 5 something seconds. No one could come close to his time.
You know what he did with that 3,000.00 rifle that he won? He told everyone on the soapbox, that he just bought one of these few weeks ago, that he would donate the rifle that he won for the Top Shot tournament, to a Wounded Warrior Project!
I was thinking, he could have kept the rifle but no, he was that kind of guy to donate his rifle to the Wounded Warrior Project which shows his true color, it just amazes me how much of a nice guy he is. I thanked him for serving our country. Kudos to him!
Anyone who lives close by should go to the event! It was fun and people was all out friendly and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. This is my 2nd year. Lots of free good stuff that they give away!
Thanks for reading, Sorry for the long read.
