    Digging a pit blind

I have built a small enclosure to go over a hole in the ground to create a pit blind. The enclosure is just big enough to shoot in one direction. I will need to dig a hole roughly 2ft deep and 3.5ft wide. The problem is the ground where I will be digging is hard as a rock. I'm looking for advice on tools that will make the digging process easier. Any suggestions?

        Digging in sand sux!

Digging in hard ground sux more!

I suggest a case of beer and trying to bribe some friends into helping!

        Another idea is a pop-up!

Okay, for some digging tips: Start by using a pick to get a starter hole and then a good sharp-shooter to dig the hole and a round point to scoop out the loose dirt.

other than that haul some water in to soften up the ground and swing a pick axe.

The best thing to use to dig that hole is a small/mini backhoe and a bucket with rock teeth. They usually rent for $150-$200 a day and you can haul them with a truck and a 16" flatbed trailer. PLUS, you never know what other little projects you could knock out with it. Good luck on the dig.

I would love to use a back hoe, but thats not possible. I will have to dig it by hand. I was hoping one of you guys would know of some new super HAND tool that would make the job a little easier.

Has anyone ever used a mattock, its like a pick axe but it has a longer handle.
