Rage Broadhead Question (only if you use them)

I have just recently started shooting Rages. Prior to that I used Montec G5 CS (I still like these heads alot). My question is for low poundage bows are Rage good? My wife shoots a Diamond bow at 40# draw most of her shots are partial pass through the arrow usually stays inthe animal but pokes out the other side. If their is only an entry hole will the rage do the damage. I think they open prior to entering the animal???

She has shot a couple of hogs with the Montecs that did not pass through and there was very little blood to follow.

    What are you thoughts

again this is not a bash on rage thread. Please only answer if you have used rage and now how they perform with lower poundage.

I shoot rage some. For low poundage I'd probably stick with a smaller diameter fixed blade bh. Just my 2 cents

I think Rage came out with a head designed for lower poundage shooters.

My wife shot 42# and used the Rage 40KE. She always got pass throughs...but only shoots out to 20 yds.

I shoot rage, but at 72lbs, but from what I understand about them they are supposed to be great for low poundage.

Read the kinetic energy recommendations on their packet or website. I'd say no at lower poundage.

My wife shoots a 40lb draw. She shoots the regular Rages not the 40 KE. She doesn't always get a pass through but she has never had a deer go further than 60 yds. If you put it in the right spot the broad head will do its job.

I shoot the rage and love it so when my wife starting hunting with her bow i started her with the rage also after she shot 3 deer last year with no recover because of very little to no blood trail and very little penetration I switched her to a 85gr slick trick, she shot a doe this year at 35yd she almost had full pass thru and the doe only went 40yd.

So from my/wife experience I do not suggest any mechanical broadhead for a low poundage bow.

My FIL is a die hard Rage fan, got me shooting them, he says "Rage in the Cage" every time he kills a deer with them, blah, blah about being such a huge fan of theirs. He will not allow my SIL to shoot Rages with her bow. She shoots 45lbs and shoots Muzzy fixed blades.

40# with no passthroughs? What range?

Momma D shoot 40# with 85g slick tricks and has had passthroughs on everthing she has shot.

At light draw weights I would stick with cut on contact heads but if she HAS to go with the Rage, get her the 40KE

I would say that it shouldn't be an issue and I shoot them. I also wouldn't take any shots over 25-30 yds if that's the case. The optimal shot would be at 15-20 yds tops. To answer your question, if all you have is an entry hole the Rage will still do plenty of damage. The entry hole should be large as well. With many of my kills the entry hole (based on the degree of qtr'ing angle) has been larger and more destructive looking than my exit holes. The 2-blade 100 grain Rage makes a nasty entry hole. I don't know about any others because I've never shot them. Make sure she's shooting low too, if she hits low with the Rage and only gets an entry hole it will allow for plenty of blood to drain out and leave a good trail....That really goes for any type of braodhead. The higher hits make blood fill the cavity up completely before it starts allowing blood out to leave a trail....... She should be fine if she takes her time and waits for the right shot! Good Luck!!

I'd stick with a cut on contact head. Keep the odds in your favor.
