Back from Kansas, I quit !

Well, the first three days were uneventfull, saw quite a few does and small bucks. The rain moved in Sunday night and hung around for a couple of days, made sitting in a tree unpleasant. November 7 th things started getting interesting, rubs and scrapes started appearing and the little bucks were chasing, on the evening of the 8th it was on, I had a few does and a couple of small bucks around me, then comong from my left the bucks started coming in single file, first a mature 8 about 130 ish, then a mature 9 came right behind him, I am thinking on shooting him when another mature 8 is following behind these two, no doubt I am waiting for this buck, he comes in and does some posturing, rubbing and scraping, I had him at 30 yards for a long time but did not like the shot angle, finally he moved in closer and as I readied for the shot the hot doe darted off, the big buck turned to follow her, I grunted to stop him, he stopped, leaving me a perfect broadside shot at 22 yards, I put the pi on him and released the arrow, I guess I was too excited and things just happened too fast, I think I put my bottom pin instead of the top pin on him because I shot 6 inches over his back. He ran about 100 yards and stopped and looked around for a bit, then he started coming back because all the other deer never ran off, he got to about 60 yards and the bottom fell out, it was raining cat and dogs, the deer all left, dadgummit ! I have been bowhunting for several years, I have not killed a buck, I have missed three, all over 150 and one that was 170 that was later killed with a rifle by our neighbor. One of the biggest reasons for not killing a buck with my bow is we were always hunting in a one buck county and I would wait until rifle season to hunt the rut, I have killed three does and several pigs with my bow. I think I am going to start laying deer down, we have plenty of them to shoot at, I think that putting 4 arrows at 40 yards in a target the size of a baseball does not mean a thing, I think you have to shoot lots of deer so you do not make the mistakes that i have made over the years, I think i have to kill the biggest buck in the woods, from now on I think if it is mature I am sending an arrow, hopefully I will learn to avoid the mistakes, I feel like Tony Romo, choke when the game is on the line, thats my story, sorry for the long rant.

I feel your frustration! But don't get get down or be hard on yourself. I missed two no e bucks in one weekend bc I got excited n rushed the shot both times!!! Best way to look at it is next time I'll get him!!!! I've been now hunting 7 years and have not connected on a buck of any size! Just been outsmarted every time!!!!

It's call hunting NOT killing for a reason!!!! Just keep at it n it will happen soon enough!!!

Dont quit! Man your jumping right into fire! Start with mature stop thinking about horn size. Trust me you will NEVER forget the big ones you miss! I havent missed in a long time, knock on wood, but I took the advice of a guide, stop looking at horns! That was my problem at least. When "HE" walks out, theres no question, no maybe, you just know. concentrate on the shot and thats it. You will get him be patient stop being concerned about the biggest in the woods till you get a few under your belt!

Still better than any day at work!

I have killed quite a few deer with the bow but each time a deer walks in within 30 yards of me I freeze and cant hardly move! Man what a RUSH!
