Yesterday was a special day, folks!!! I got a text from my Dad (Hogdudedad) at 5:16 pm saying "Just shot Mr. Wide...5:09 pm". I knew right then it was time to gather my girls and get our boots on!!! 
We loaded up in the truck and headed over to the 608 with hopes of getting there in time to help my Dad recover his deer. My girls and I parked the truck and walked down the trail back to the Taj Majal, which is the blind my Dad was hunting out of. As we were walking, I whistled softly. About 5 seconds later my Dad whistled back. I knew he was in the brush already looking for the deer. I whistled again and my Dad instantly whistled back. We met up about halfway down the trail and I asked him if he'd found the deer. He said "not yet" with a little bit of concern in his voice. I said, "let's go back to where he was standing when you shot him and start over." So the four of us walked down the trail, past the blind, and over to the edge of the food plot. It was dang near dark by now. There was no blood where the deer was standing when shot, so we carefully started up the direction the deer ran. It wasn't long before we found a drop of blood, yeah, a drop. It took a couple minutes to find more blood, and then the trail picked up a bit, and then it let up. I was treating this blood trail like a crime scene, trying my best to keep my girls, who were following along, behind me. They were just as anxious to find the deer, but I kept telling them that we have find blood before we can move forward. Anywho, we found another drop, then another, then it took a bit to find more. The faint blood trail went right up the side of a little hill and picked back up at the top. I then started seeing blood over in the brush, then I found some meat on the brush. I knew then that the deer was probably stumbling and he couldn't be much further. We followed the trail another few steps, and I shined the light up a few feet in the brush and there he was!!! Man were we all excited and relieved that the deer only went 50 yards. We drug the deer out of the brush and took some LDPs. I went back and got the 4 wheeler and we loaded him up. We ended up taking the deer back to the barn at the DDR to cape and clean.
What an awesome way to spend an evening. Certainly made some memories that will last a lifetime, especially for my girls!!!!

Btw, Mr. Wide is a deer that we have watched grow up. He hangs around all summer eating at the protein feeders and food plots. I'm pretty sure this is this first time either of us has seen him while hunting though, as it seems he disappears once he sheds his velvet.
Maybe my Dad will chime in here with more facts or past pics of Mr. Wide.
