why do both cars break down at the same time?

First Nicole's did on Saturday night. Luckily it happened 2 miles from her sister's house but it was 10pm and I had to get the 2 kids out of bed into my truck, get her's back to her sister's, etc. Then Sunday was getting it back to the house. I think something is wrong with her cruise control. By the time I got there it cranked right up and had no problems since. Took it to Autozone today and no error codes show up on the computer. Plus her transmission is acting up.

Then tonight on my way home from my son's martial arts, my serpentine belt broke about 5 miles from the house. I drive about 2-3 miles on the shoulder and finally parked it on the shoulder and called my neighbor.

Guess I really can't complain. Nicole's is 7 yrs old with about 120k miles on it. Mine is 11 yrs old with 231k miles on it. Fixing is cheaper than a payment!

sorry for the bad luck. On the serpintine, those belts rarely break on their own. most likely something caused it. chk all bearings and belt tensioners. Good luck

Sorry about the double trouble BigL.

I'm staying in front of the maintenance curve on my rides. Dropped about 1300 bucks with drive train stuff, front drive axle on 4x4 unit, new UJoints, dumped rear end fluid with refill & gasket...new plugs and wires with tune. Changed the belts, including timing belt, transmission fluid & filter during my last round. New rotors and brakes the round before that with a fresh set of tires.

Sure makes it easier to do when it's paid for....always have to keep them maintained. At least they roll for thousands of miles now without a single leak, compression loss or loss of power. Knock on wood...my exhaust system is still sound...no leaks and I'm rolling with 206 k.

Because you're a bad person maybe?

          Nah, probably just a coincidence...

Bad luck man, hopefully it just needs a belt.

Yea pretty sure all I need is the serpentine belt, it has over 231k miles and about 4 yrs ago the AC went out causing extra wear on it. Recently when getting an oil change they said I'm going to need one soon. Didn't realize it would be this soon! I was only 5 miles from home and tried to make it before the battery died.

Yea I've probably pushed a little off that I should have done on the truck but it's still going strong. Did new plugs at 200k and new ujoints around that same time. Need to do the belt, replace the radiator hoses and get radiator flush, and a set of front brakes and rotors on the truck. Will probably do some of that tomorrow. No leak, loss of power, exhaust still good, etc. I do burn about 2 qts of oil every 5k miles but that's about it.

Thanks will let you know when I'm ready. Trying to hold out for 2 more years if possible! Still got some divorce debt that I'm working on so I'm trying to not get into another payment until then! We'll see what the mechanic says tomorrow though. Maybe one isn't worth fixing. I doubt it but you never know.
