3 of the last 4 bucks I have killed were on November 6th. I headed out this morning with that thought in the back of my mind.
It sounded like a war with all the gunshots yesterday and this morning on the neighboring leases. After seeing only one small buck this morning, plus the wind, warmer temperature, and all the new hunting pressure I almost didnt hunt this afternoon. In the back of my mind I knew I had to...Its November 6th.
I got in the stand around 3:45. It was warm and the wind was blowing so I wasnt expecting much action. I am hunting on a ground scrape where I have gotten several pictures of some good bucks. It was around 4:45 when I heard a deer running towards me. It was a doe that crossed about 50 yards from me. She never looked back and passed by me. I honestly thought she ha been spooked. I stood up and got ready with my bow just in case. A few minutes passed and nothing. Just as I sat back down I heard another deer coming from the same direction.
When I first saw him he was trotting in the same path the doe had taken, just out of range. I dont know why but he stopped and decide to come towards the scrape. As he made his way toward me I stood and got my bow ready. He was about 25 yards straight on when he changed his mind and turned back after the doe. He ran just a few steps and I whistled to stop him. He stopped, looked up, and I put an arrow right behind his shoulder.
You can bet I'll be in the stand again next November 6th.
