Same thing happened to me recently. That sucker stopped me in my tracks quick.

I also recently ran a skunk away from my set up. I had a green light. Luckily, he was as interested in an encounter with me, as I was with him. I try to move quickly and minimize my time with the light on, so as soon as I can see my ladder, or take a quick peek into my pop-up, I kill the light and get set up with ambient light and by feel.

I use a flashlight too. Don't want to run into a critter or trip on something.

Red headlamp but only when I have to. Prefer to walk in in the dark if I can make out my path.

Same here.....if I can see, I walk in without a light. If I cannot, I used a red headlight light and try to keep it pointed down.

I have had a few trips in the fog or misty rain on a new moon where I had a hard time getting to my blind even with a light. That's an eery feeling when you are feeling like you are walking inside a bubble and you can't see outside of it.

I use the single red led on my headlamp. Like others have said, animals don't carry lights and I don't want to be mistaken for an animal.
Plus it has prevented me twice so far this season from encounters with Jake, once with a copperhead the other with a moccasin.
I usually hunt alone and at times when I'm the only person on the lease. If something happened to me it would probably have a bad outcome by the time someone got there to help me.

I use a small LED cap light that I cup in my hand.

Mainly to light the 5 feet in front of me, if needed.

I use one of those lights that clips on the bill of the cap. I will light up the area for 2-3 seconds about every 30 seconds. Gives me enough light to check the trail in front of me.
