    Hunting S.Texas ...

Leaving tomorrow for my first hunt at the S.Texas managed ranch (perk of wifes job)..
Have no idea what to expect.. ..or how to act for that matter... so used to hunting E.Texas out of a Pine tree with deer that can step 3 feet any direction and be gone...

Anyone hunt around Alice,Tx? whats its like? Wide open? senderos? hills? mesquite thickets? Rattling work? whens the Rut? how aggressive to call?
Got me some BuckCandy and nose jammer so I'll be trying that stuff out too...
...one more half day at work.....

Should be lots s mesquite with cleared senderos. Watch out for the scrub brush cactus. Rattling usually works around rut time still about a month away. Are you bow or rifle hunting?? If you make into Alice to eat there used to be a good mexican restaurant called Chentes. It's good just make sure you got a decent bathroom close

This will be a rifle hunt.. there is bow hunting from what I'm being told..mostly out of box blinds..but the group I'm going up with is rifle hunting and since I've never been.. this will be a scouting trip more than anything..
I'll make note to drive by Chentes

You’re going to love it SM…. That country just gets in your blood. Straight corn on the senderos is the ticket & Doe in estrous works extremely well when the time is right.

But for now I would stick with corning the senderos…….

I find that they start rutting right around the 10th of Dec. & you will have a new moon on the 10th.

Good luck on you hunt, it’s one you will never forget !

Lots of low brush, but don't let the view fool you. You can't see the deer like you think you should, but they are there. Have fun!

Good luck. Corn in the sendero is the way to go.

If it's a managed ranch, they will be used to people corning the roads. Mix up some of that buck candy with the corn and give it a go. The brush will most likely be thick mesquite and hide the deer very well! The saying goes: just about everything in south Texas will either stick you or bite you, so be careful where you step and squat!!

Dont shoot the first buck you see unless its a bonafide hoss. Theres alot of good deer in the area and you should see lots of candidates. Seen lots of folks hunt down south that arent used to seeing the numbers and quality of deer down there. Good luck and we'll be waitin on some Ldp's!!

short and thick brush! And all of it's pokey as crap!!!!!!!
                              You'll have a blast amigo!
Sitting in a mesquite or sitting in a clump of black brush with nothing in view but that red dirt and acres upon acres of mesquites and blackbrush....
Just gets me going thinking about it
