saw the post on here about the guys lab that got hit by a rattler. was gonna post this comment on there but it was already 4 something pages deep in replies. so I thought I'd start a new thread so hopefully more people see this. they do make a rattle snake vaccine for dogs. I didn't know about it untill a few years ago so I figured some of you havnt heard about it either. it's $50ish bucks with a booster every year. it's not 100% effective but I think any chance it'll work is worth it in my book. just thought I'd share.

We gave it to my lab. Thankfully, we have yet to test the effectiveness of it. I have been told it will buy her time in the event she is struck. I have also printed out the name, address and phone number of the vets near our ranch. I printed them in BOLD font, so I can clearly read the name/number in a panic. I figure doing the homework now will buy her even more time.

The vaccine is made by Red Rock Labs, and most vets charge about 20.00 for it. You need the initial shot, and then 30 days later you need a 2nd shot or "booster". After that get them annually. I get my tracking dog the shots, and I've had her snake trained 3 times also.
Wayne Lain with "snake breakers" puts on clinics all over Texas, and I highly reccomend getting your dog trained. It's mighty cheap ins. in my book.

Before everyone jumps on the band wagon.............. do some research. I have talked with more than a few people that put on snake clinics, vets, and victim owners that have stated.........."There have been quite a few cases where the vaccine killed my dog"
Mine go out with my fingers crossed. I look at it like this........if she gets hit working, she got it doing something she loves. Which is what I would want anyway. Not some shot killing her.
