Proper way to attach tag to a deer?

Silly question I know for someone who hunts as much as I do, but I've always wondered. Ok, I've read the TPWD outdoor annual and wanted to get your thoughts. Normal procedure for us is to quarter the deer and cut off head with tag attached to the head (either to the antlers or if doe, the ear) with a twist tie. I know the tag must be attached to the carcass but I've never figured a good way to do so. How do you do it? Won't the ink on the tag run in all the ice? Where & how do you attach so it will be secure in the icechest?

Like you I always attach to the ear. I use a safety pin.

I twist tie it to the antlers or if it's a doe I cut a slit in the ear and twist tie it there.

I've always tied it to the ice chest lid strap on the inside of the ice chest had a guy show me how they did it at the Y. O. Ranch and carry the head in a bag

We put ours in a ziplock snack bag and toss 'em in the cooler with the meat. Not technically "attached" to the meat but have never been questioned.

I'm curious if that would be a violation? I've seen others do it that way.

I use whatever is handy to tie it to either the antlers or ear.

I zip-tie it to the Ears (after cutting a hole in her ear) or Horns and then I secure it with D-Tape

Our GW told us if me move it, from where it dropped without the tag attached and filled out, he would write us a ticket.

I attacht to the antler or slit the ear of a doe and use a zip tie, then if you can put the head in a plastic bag. Put the bag in the ice chest with the deer. That keeps the head, and tag dry and cold.

A guy I hunted with got a ticket for that. He said he was planning on tagging it at camp because he forgot his glasses.

we have always zip-tie it on the hock, either doe or buck since it is easy to tell the legs apart. That way a tag on the antler is not in the LDP's
