My father was laid to rest yesterday afternoon with military honors after a long life of 90 years and two days. His teaching of my 2 brothers and myself was a childhood of many, many times of hunting and fishing. Those memories came to life so vividly as the American flag from his casket was handed to me by the sargent of the U.S. Army who drove five hours from Fort Hood for the services. The thread about our national anthem today brings tears to my eyes as I realize just how much my Dad gave to insure every American is able to hear The Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem.
