BH sharpness and results of dull BH

How sharp do they need to be? Does the velocity of the BH do most of the slicing or is beyond being razor sharp required. Light sabor sharp? What happens if the BH is dull? I am not sure I buy into the "push arteries out of the way" instead of cutting. Seems like the speed would help with the slicing. I shot a doe last week. She did not go far. Was using a 2 blade blood runner. It was sharp but not razor. I had shot it at the target a few times to make sure everything was good to go. The doe went 30-40 yards. Quick clean kill. When cleaning her while removing her guts I felt a tug while pulling the lungs lose. It was the part of the lung coming from the exit wound. A little lung was on the out side. Was told that was cause my BH was not sharp enough so it drug the lungs out. I was thinking more along the lines of she ran so hard she pushed them out like a dolphines blow hole. I cant see anything being pulled by a blade traveling almost 300fps. What do yall think?

The Atom Broadhead isn't razor sharp but works very well.

They better be razor sharp if you run into a gw they will test them

i don't buy this. what one person considers sharp another may not. i think as long as they are not bent or noticable dull then they are fine. i usually run mine over a sharpener a few times after i shoot at a target or after shooting from hunting.

If you run a butter knife through deer's lungs it will kill'em. Sharp is good but I don't get freaked out if they won't cut the hair on my arm either

Kinda what i was thinking about the atom.

Can i ask what test the GW does? How is it determined if a BH is "legally sharp"?

GW has no jurisdiction on the sharpness of the broadhead. Nothing in the regulations says anything about sharpness. Read:

                • When used to hunt turkey and all game animals other than squirrels, a projectile must be equipped with a broadhead hunting point that is at least 7/8-inch in width (upon impact) and has a minimum of two cutting edges. A mechanical broadhead must begin to open upon impact and, when open, must be a minimum of 7/8-inch in width.

If the GW told you that he is dead wrong. Tell him to read the regulations. Nothing is said about sharpness, only width on impact and a minimum of 2 cutting edges.

Don't make out like he is an idiot, he said a GW tested or told him the test for broadheads is a rubberband.
