The game warden comment was kinda funny. I am a police officer, and I can tell you from experience that I don't know everything. Sometimes there is a break down in communications, or interpretations. Here is what I know-there is no law on the books about bh sharpness. There is also no test that a GW can administer to prove that your bh's were legally sharp enough. He might have said that but honestly he is full of it. A little knowlege of the law can be dangerous.

Everyone is going to do what they think is best anyway not matter what is said here. I personally will only shoot very sharp fixed blade heads.

Your totally right dude. I should of just pulled my bow out of the case that was in the back of my 3/4 ton truck bed that bounced around for almost 3 hours to get there. And just assumed that everything was all in tune. I did lose an animal one time. It was after not testing my bow before the hunt. The arrow went to far in front of the deer piercing her front shoulder. Left a blood trail for a good ways. Never found the deer, never seen buzzards, nothing. No idea what happened to her. However the deer that was shot with my bow that was tested before hand went 40 yards max leaving a great blood trail from a sharp but not razor sharp BH. To me, the arrow hitting the right spot is more important than the level of sharpness of the BH. I also found out my bow was shoting high at 20 yards. The 20 yard pin instantly became the 25 yard pin. Which actually worked out for me during the hunt cause she gave me the shot at 25 yards broad side. I only have 3 pins 10,20.30 yards. I may have shot over her back if I had assumed the sight was still on. Which brings me to a whole other thread of " I need a new sight what should I ask for from santa?"
Maybe take a test shot with a practice broadhead, rather than the one you are hunting with.

Good idea, however... The other two BH had been ran thru critters already. I did start with them. But when the bow was shooting weird I thought it may be the dents and bends in the BH. So to make sure I shot the new one a few times to make sure. Like I said it was sharp. Just not razor. It did a great job aswell.

Ok, I'm back. Had to go sharpen my broadheads. Bring on the rubber bands!

well this turned into a heck of a debate. i bet it dies down now that a cold front is here. deer should be moving. do you think that shooting a deer will knock all the rust off my broad heads????

No, but if it does not bleed out it will die from tetanus

wait, is rust on the BH bad too? dang I thought it would just add a little extra iron to the diet.

I only hunt with razor sharp broadheads because I feel thats the key to a quick clean kill, but I do have one question. If razor sharp broadheads cause the most bleeding, why do surgeons use razor sharp scalpels? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to use semi-dull blades?

I hear the way Game Wardens test the sharpness is on your bow string. Haha

(oven mit made by 5th grader for mom look) slide a dull broadhead through the rubber bands. most times only a couple will cut and fly off. you take a razor sharp broadhead and slide it through and A LOT will pop off cut. this is to simulate a dull broadhead going through the body cavity "pushing" veins and arteries aside as opposed to cutting/slicing them as it passes through.
Makes sense... thanks. I might get a wild hair in the off season and try this out!
