    Hog trap laws?

We have several hog traps on our leased property that are fully enclosed. We often find mature bucks and does in these traps. The land owner thinks this is a small price to pay to get hogs in check. Some deer are released a little scratched up,but know of three that had mortal wounds. Is ther any laws on hog traps? If there isn't,there should be!Traps need open tops for the deer to excape! If anyone any information on a law against this, please let me know,Thanks

If it is high fenced anything goes. Our lease has a high fence next to it and they ride around at night shooting exotics. We called the GW one night and he said they can do whatever they want. But if it's low fenced, you can't trap deer without state approval. Now the owner could say the deer were damaging his property.

there are no laws regarding traps. especially the size and shape. maybe you can build a figure 9 trap and see how it performs compared to the cage style you have in place now. Then maybe start replacing the cages with the open top style so the deer can make it out. and there could be some issues if someone saw a dead deer in a trap i would think.

^^^^^this. They are a varmint and can be taken by any means. Open the top of the trap an the deer can escape

isn't this the reason for diesel corn, to keep deer from eating it and out of traps

            Low fence,can't modify traps,as I don't own them.

I understand. Never said modify existing traps, but suggested building a few new ones with hog panels and an open top. see if they catch as many or more than the cage style, then start replacing the cages with the new style. and fence on your place should not matter. high or low there are still no laws concerning size, shape, or any other factor about the traps.
