Slammed out some work this week to make this long weekend happen! Lungpumper and myself headed out at 4:30 this morning trying to take advantage of this cold front. Dang nothing beats a crisp morning in the stand with your bow in hand. Sorry off subject back now.
We have been working and working trying to get on some of these nice axis running around this place. They always seem to have the upper hand. The place is all low fence free ranging exotics and whitetail. Last year we tried but we couldnt get anything to go our way. Especially Lungpumper... He would pick one stand and watch the axis walk under his other stand. Or even better watch his guest arrow the buck he had been hunting for all season...
Well this morning was the ticket. Axis everywhere, I figured forsure he would connect with something. Our stands in this one area are about 300yds apart. I could see his hunting area but he cant see mine. While watching all his deer mull around and eat I just sat there and watched waiting for that big boy to show up at his setup. While sitting in my stand on a trail(no feeder) watching the show he was getting, look who stepped up. He is not the biggest axis out there but for my first I am a happy camper.
We will be back at it this afternoon, hopefully tracking more blood trails!
