    Duck Hunting Question??

Im fairly new to the duck hunting scene and I have a question and would appreciate your input from experienced duck hunters. Do any of you duck hunt with 3.5 inch shells? Also, would 3.5 inch BB shot be good for duck, or only for goose hunting? Thank you for your advice!

I prefer 4-2 for ducks and BB for strictly geese.

I hunt with 3.5 shells, but a lot of people says 3's work just as good. If you can afford to shoot 3.5's and your gun can handle it, I say go for it. Go big or go home. I prefer to save BB shot and bigger for geese and crane. I would recommend 3's or 4's for ducks, but if all you have is BB shot it is adequate.

I duck hunt a lot and shoot 3.5" BBs at everything except during early teal. Where I hunt, we get geese too and it's too much of a hassle trying to swap shells.

3 inch 2's and 4's will kill more than BB's. Just depends if you are pass shooting em or decoying em in the timber........

I shoot 4s at ducks, BBBs at geese. I only shoot 3". BBs work, but I like to decoy birds and if you aren't sky blasting 4s will knock them dead.

Shoot em if you got em. Otherwise use 3" #4's. Theyre cheaper and alot easier on the shoulder and head.

Ya i shoot a 3 2's and 4's max thats just bc my shoulder likes it more when im not always shooting a bigger round. plus i think a 3 1/2 is just over kill when in reality a 2 3/4 will do the job pretty much anywhere in tx that your going to hunt. But with 3in you can get a faster fps. I really like the hypersonic's i devestated the ducks last year with that round

Okay thanks guys, I was looking at buying some from a guy and I was just wanting to check with yall before I decided to buy the lot of shells. I'll just go and stock up on 3 in #2.

I shoot 3.5" BB while duck hunting. I can assure you they work well as your birds will fall dead. Make sure you get 1 9/16 oz as well. You will also knock geese down and won't have to change shells. If I teal hunt specifically , I'll use 3.5 #4.

I very rarely load anything bigger than 3" #4s in my duck gun, mainly to keep from taking too long a shot.

If I get in the boat with someone who insists on shooting heavier loads, I pretty mych count that hunt as a loss before I head out. I shoot ducks over decoys... not over the moon.

If you're shooting a pump - stick with the 3in's your shoulder will thank you later. #3 or 4 shot are my favorites - IMO on ducks it's not the size of the pellet, but the pattern density. You could knock the crud out of ducks with #6 lead if it were legal.

If most of the geese you run into are snows, #2 shot might be a happy medium. It's plenty for decoying snows. Canadians need at least BB in most cases unless you're going with a heavier metal. Have shot some with #3 (forgot to swap with duck loads), but those were close, decoying birds.

You don't need 3.5 unless you're hunting goose.
