Beaumont THB'ers - Need some help!

Well it has been a roller coaster the past 3 months. I was finally able to break in the pharmaceutical sales career in July with Johnson and Johnson. I have throughly enjoyed it and wished I would have started back when I graduated college.

But my company decided to lay off 40% of the sales force. Being the new kid on the block, I got cut. It was a surprise and a bit stressful as we had built a house and only been in it for a month.

Well...it seems the Lord had things in the works before I found out about getting the axe. I have had two opportunities to stay in the industry and decided to stay with my current company. To do this I have to take over the Beaumont territory.

My territory will cover from Baytown to the Golden Triangle, and from the coast up to south of Lufkin. Most of my business, 70% or so, will be in Baytown and the triangle of Beaumont, Orange and Port Arthur.

I am looking for some advice from those that live in this area on good places to live. My wife will try to find work, mid-year, as a elementary school counselor if possible. I have talked with a few people and I have some places in mind, but I wanted to reach out to the TBH brethren.

Let me know what you think.

    Matt

Check out the Barbers Hill School District. They are one of the top paying disctricts in the State and they have good kids with not a lot of problems.

    Good luck in your move.

Nederland, Port Neches or Lumberton are all good places to raise kids.

One of my buddies is the principal at Bmt Westbrook HS. I can ask him to comment on school districits for your wife if you like. He was in Silsbee before.

The West End of Bmt is nice if you don't want to live in one of the smaller places around. Personally I'd find a place outside Bmt with a little land and go from there.

I am the product of BISD schools, All of my elders are currently employeed with or retired from the district.

Now days I have mixed feelings about the state of the schools.
But if you go that route hit me up and I will call on some folks.

          There are counselor positions open.

            DoubleBayou,

Thanks for that list. My wife said she had seen that and we were wondering if they were opening up new schools next year b/c of the "To be assigned" next to the position.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am thinking along the lines with you, Innergal. There are some nice places with a little acreage that look very interesting.

I sure won't be living in Atascocita...I heard that is where all the metrosexual bowhunters live.

Feel free to drop a line, I am in Orange, in sales, and the wife is a teacher for BCISD.

There is a ton of work over here in all areas, we even have some openings. We just purchased some property and hope to build mid to late next year.

I would be cautious of the Lumberton area due to inflated home/land prices. We have been looking at homes in Lumberton for ideas and styles and they are very high in my opinion. There are a lot of "spec/custom" homes being built as investments for the builders. These are nicer than a spec but too high for me to feel comfortable. The rent market here is OFF THE CHART, try to find something to buy or build and you should be fine.

              Drop a line anytime,
