    Cedar Post Porch Columns

Do you use the actual post as the porch support?

If so how do you connect it to the c-perlin for the roof and the slab at the base?

Red neck it and wedge it up in there

Put a redhead bolt in the bottom of the post into the slab. Then you can bolt the c perlin on the topog the post

I guess I am being dense. i can see where the concrete anchor has a bolt head looking up. So how do you mount the post to the bolt?

Drill a hole in the bottom of the post that the anchor fits snug up into and set it on top of it.

Seems like you would need a double sided anchor. One side for the slab and one side for the post. Am I thinking right?

You don't need a double sided anchor. Just put some Bondo, JB weld, or liquid nails in the hole. the weight of the roof will hold it down. Screw it in from the top of your c-perlin. Done this a hundred times. If for some reason it ever lifts off the bolt you are probably in the middle of a tornado and it really won't matter.

Drill hole is the post. Coarse thread the outside of a piece of pipe that's just barely shorter than the depth of your hole. The pipe should have an ID to match the OD of your bolt. Thread the inside to match the anchor bolt. Cut 2 notches 180 degrees off in the pipe and use a piece of flat bar to screw the pipe into the post( like a flathead screw). Then screw the post onto the anchor bolt. Worked well when we did it.
