Since I was put on call today, and can't hunt because of it, I read this whole thread again.
Dude, I think you need to take the time and write an article, complete with ALL pics (Meaning mount.....hint, hint), the emotions high and low you went thru, go back and take some pics now(if you didn't then) of where all you tracked and submit to Mary for the Journal.

Why would it drag it to the bank? They do the death roll to tear off a piece then swallow it. Do they take a fish to the shore to swallow it?

Not always true brother.
Something they can eat that's small. They will go to bank and raise their head up to eat it. Seen it first hand. Also, something like a deer. They would basically do what your saying to rip a piece off. But if they don't want a chunk. They would stuff the whole thing under a log or roots for later.
