    trying to start again

I guess I just want to rant, but I'm trying to get started again in bow hunting after being away for20 there's years. I bought a beginners bow thinking I could fall right back into it. Man, was I wrong. There is not a bow shop anywhere near me anymore or anyone that I know of that i can take it to to help set it up. I bought a square and set a noc point but shot that off on the third shot. I have never used a release, and if I bust myself in the nose once more, I'll have a bow for sale. Rant off

You'll be OK once you knock the rust off. Just be patient you started back for a reason...

I'm with you. I went and shot today after taking 4 years off. My wife and I had a daughter so I gave it up for a while. 10 arrows in hitting "X". It will come back to you. Just be patient. Where do you live? Some 1 on here is probably close and would love to help.

I'm about 70 miles west of Abilene. I was off work last weekend and found the only " shop" but I guess they were off too.

I never used a release before I got back into it about 3 seasons ago either, but I like it now. I can help you set it up if we can get together, but it's a busy time for me right now. We'll see what works out but you're not that far from me.

Why are you bonking yourself in the nose?

The string loop pops off as I'm drawing. After about ten shots I get a surprise in the nose.

Well I finally took some time to tie a proper release loop and work on sighting in my bow. The rust must be knocked off, because I impressed myself! Got my pins set for 10, 20, 30 yards. Thinking about moving them to 20, 30, and 40.

Welcome to the site...I just got back into archery myself this year, after about 20 years. Man, how the technology has changed! If you can find a good archery shop they can help you out with advice and getting your gear squared away.

Modern bows shoot a lot faster than the bows we were shooting 20+ years ago...so you probably don't need a 10 yard pin. I used to have 10/20/30/40 myself, but now it's more like 20/30/40/50 (seldom shoot the 50).
