But you will get away with more in a pop-up.

So if you got the secret please hook a brother up!
I use the scent away products, cover scent of doe pee, and sometimes but not all the time coon pee.

Because if i have deer down wind of me, they either bolt stomp and snort forever, or they just bolt so fast you would have that I shot a cannon off in my blind!

My hunts go down like this:
Question 1: Where are my big bucks are travelling?
Question 2: Which way is the wind gonna blow?
If I miscalculate either of those questions I will not have a successful hunt.

I never play the wind either... Deer come from all directions on every place I've hunted in Texas!
Now if your hunting in a tree over a food plot then yeah, but not where I hunt!Originally posted by bloodtrail View PostMight fool some deer. But not many mature deer or big pigs.

Same goes for hog hunting, or predator hunting.
I guess to each their own on this one.. but I will hunt the wind, at all times. My number one concern!
Rifle hunting from an elevated position carries less of an importance but its still a factor!Last edited by Coach W; 10-13-2011, 08:58 AM.

I have had 20-30 deer pass me on trails within 15 yards (some inside of 5 yards) on every sit for years sitting on a white 5 gallon bucket outside of a wheatfield and never had one show any sings of smelling me. A LOT of it has to do with the human pressure/hunting pressure in your particular area.

I must just smell like a KILLER, so they are more jittery around me. I built plywood ground blinds with one window, which is sealed and left closed until I am ready to shoot. All seams are caulked, and I have weather stripping around the door. If I have the wrong wind, I am 9 out of 10 times screwed. Some times if it is cool, and I can make it to the stand without any perspiration, I can get away with it. Most times, I am going to hear the stomp and blow. I do all the scent stuff, shower every time, wash and seal clothes every time, change into hunting clothes at location, spray down with some sort of scent killer (tried them all by the way), rubber boots, even tried wearing latex gloves for a while, used Ozonics, vanilla, cover scents, rubbed down with cedar for a while (that stuff sticks with you), stepped in cow turds, coon pee, fox pee, you name it I have tried it. The facts are this everything works some of the time, and nothing works all the time.
I just got back from hunting for a week. One hunt I did all the scent stuff shower, fresh clothes, changed from drive out clothes to hunting clothes, spray down, hunt in sealed blind: result, winded. The next hunt I wore shorts and a t shirt, did not spray down with anything, and had deer down wind. Do everything you can to stay scent free, but the fact is some times no matter what you do, they are going to wind you.
