    6.0 F-250 Question

    Hey guys,
I just inherited an '04 F-250 with a manual transmission. It's very sluggish right off the start and especially when it's not warmed up. I did some research and cleaned the EGR valve which helped quite a bit with shakiness but still not where I'd like the truck to be. I was thinking about getting an EGR delete kit installed and wanted to get some opinions from some guys who know more about it first. Is there anything else along with the EGR delete it that I would need to get to help out in any way? Thanks in advance!

Believe you'll be wanting to do head studs/gaskets as well

As im sure you know the EGR cooler is the main problem with this engine. From what I have learned. The egr cooler goes bad, then behind it the oil cooler and then if its not taken care of in time the head gaskets.

I bought mine in January. Since I have put 3,000 in it. Egr Delete, oil cooler, water pump, coolant res., steering bearing, pitman arm, exhaust bracket.

Because when they pull the engine part and the oil cooler is right there they say to go ahead and do it to save on labor from pulling the engine apart again. It really depends on if you can afford to do it at the same time.

Dont know what all you have on your truck but the engine being able to breath is the biggest part of performance for this engine. Make sure your air filter is clean. Get a K and N if you dont already have a cold intake. Get a 6 inch pipe all the way through

Find yourself as good Diesel Guy that you can trust and he will tell you what all needs to be done to Bullet Proof this engine. Its not cheap but once its done its a strong hard working engine. Just take alot of money and tears to get it there.

Good luck with your truck and if you have any questions feel free to ask

If you are having issues with it being sluggish I suggest you change the fuel filters (2 of them). If is running "rough" like you said it is most likely the filters... however if you have a lot of miles on the engine it could be the injectors... You can always take it to the Ford house and let them tell you what is wrong with it. Then you can decide on what you need to do.

Still payin on that truck son.....don't get too radical until you can pay for it, hear.

          Need the k&n.
Oil filters need changed at 200K. Where's it at now? You oughta be gettin close. Don't forget to put Amsoil in it. Like to keep it synthetic.

My best advice is to get rid of it while it's still running. Mine was the biggest POS I ever owned.

Spent $5200 on mine when the EGR went bad along with the oil pump and 3 injectors and host of other parts. $3100 just in parts! My mechanic said to not run Rottella T in it, stay with Motorcraft. I did the EGR delete and it is running better now than when it was new. Mine is a 2006 6.0 F350. A friend has a new F250 6.7 and the oil change place told him the same thing about Rottella and to stay with the Motorcraft oil.

Best advice. Trade that 6.0 in for an older 7.3. Best thing you can do IMO.

egr delete oil cooler rebuild pull the injectors send them off to get tested in the process. arp studs and gaskets if you can handle the bill for labor. when the heads are off check for cracks they crack alot. Send them to a good machine shop have them decked/plained. Get a small tune exaust and an intake. Drive it like its stolen for 5,000 miles if it breaks dump it as a trade. If it holds together keep it and continue driving it like its stolen.
