    7.3PSD question

Headed home from work tonight, got within 1/2mi of the house and it felt like the engine died, check engine and service soon lights lit up but before I could check RPMs and other guages it picked back up and ran fine all the way to the house.

Anybody with a 7.3PSD ever experienced anything like this?

Headed to KS after Thanksgiving and don't want to have any problems. If the light would stay lit I could get a code but when it is on and back off in less than a sec it is hard to diagnose

sounds like you have a programmer since you could pull your codes.. If so I would take it off ASAP before you fry your ECM's
Sounds like computer problems to me

Maybe the cam sensor? Ours used to do that but it would randomly die completely and after cranking it back up it would run fine and not happen again for a while.

They had a recall and its not hard or expensive to fix.

If you have not had sensor replaced, dealer will replace for free. Won't take very long.

Had the cam sensor recall done and no chip or programmer, just can't get a code without the check engine light on is what I understood
I can handle broke because I know what to do to fix it, but something that occurs randomly drives me crazy

Could still be the CPS, this is what mine was doing before it was replaced.

Codes are stored till battery is dc'd. Sounds like cam sensor symptom.

Maybe I will just run by the dealer and pick one up, think they are fairly cheap and easy to replace with a 10mm wrench

Agreed CPS.....I've been through about 8 of them.

                    So your engine didnt die...........

Had the same issue once. Driving down the road, and motor went to idle. No responce from the peddle. Searched Thedieselstop.com, and I found out it was my throttle pedal. A couple bolts & plug a new one in.

If your motor was actually stuttering, and not running right, it could be CPS, or Under VC harness.

Sure hope it's not an injector......ouch!

My 2000 crapped out an injector on the way to Tennessee, couple of years ago. I thought it was the cam sensor or fuel issue. Changed both and drove a few miles and truck died again. Took it to the shop, and injectors/work is not conducive to a good start on a vacation budget!!!

It happened so fast I don't really know what it did other than make the 2 lights i mentioned above pop on and go right back out

I sure hope it is not an injector issue

Your computer should store codes without the light if they havent been reset. It just depends on the kind of code reader you use to try and pull them.

is the cps the cam sensor??? or do I need to be looking for something too?

Camshaft Position Sensor or CPS. I have been through about 4 in my '02. Also had injector regulator replaced. That one sucked to the tune of 1500
