To legally purchase a NEW handgun, you have to be 21, long gun is 18.

To legally purchase handgun ammo, you have to be 21, long gun is 18.

To legally possess ANY firearm, you have to be 18. You can purchase a handgun from a private seller or receive one as a gift (hand me down).

Ok. I looked it up and I am wrong. The actuall law is 46.02 Unlawful carrying of weapons. It states that you can carry an firearm in your vehicle out of sight as long as you arent engaged in criminal activities or prohibited by law from possessing a firearm (this part I knew). I was unaware that a person over 18 and under 21 could own a handgun thus falling in the prohibited by law from possessing. I am in Law enforcement but I admit I dont know it all. I took a LE class last week dealing with new laws. there were 1,379 new laws passed just this year. But be familiar with PC 46.03 places weapons prohibited. There are places were this law does not apply. Like on school grounds.
