i have also shot the diamond dead eye and fugitive r.a.k. packages, and preferring the much cheaper fugitive over the dead eye. you just need to shoot and see what you like, but don't forget about picking up a used model if it fits the bill.

Go to an archery shop. Tell them your plans, shoot everything you can(go to another shop if the first doesnt have a particular brand). Find the one you like. Don't settle for something less than the one you love because it's "in your budget". You have plenty of time. Stash away some more $$$$ if need be.

I got lucky and got a mathew Z7 magnum that was only shot about 20 times by the guy that works at the bow shop he thought it was to rough of a pull. I liked it though he is also older and I am more youthful than him

I just purchased a R.A.K (ready aim kill) bowtech assassin and absolutely love it! the R.A.K package was 599.99 and if fully rigged out with everything you need to starting hunting...........I opted to upgrade the accessories and purchased an HHA single pin, the QAD lD rest an octane stabilizer and bowjacks, I think i've got 1100$ into it with all of that and 2dzn arrows at 100 per dzn........there is nothing wrong with the package out of the box tho and having a lifetime warranty made it an easy choice for me

Brand new bow tech assassin blacked out with sight, rest and quiver and all ready to shoot for that much shooting faster than almost all of them. I love mine

This......with 27" DL and 65 pounds I'm pushing a 380 grain arrow at 270 fps, not too shabby for such a short draw
