    Broadhead sharpening ??

My sons shoot muzzy phantoms and I need some advice on the easiest way to resharpen them. Just to let you know in advance I stink at sharpening knives on a whetstone.

Get yourself the muzzy sharpener. I tough up my wife's 85gr 2 blade phantom and my 100 grain 3 blade

I use the smiths sharpener. It's $4 and works great!

Those broadhead sharpeners work great. 2-3 passes across the blades and they are literally razor sharp.

I've never sharpened BH's before, but after reading this, I plan on giving it a try.

Muzzy or g5 sharpener. Best I've ever had. Use the g5 on mechanicals, fixed and knives

Don't use a work sharp on your broadheads. Yes it got my thunderheads shaving sharp but now the blades wont lock into the heads. I guess it took a little too much off. I've got 5 new shaving sharp coon arrows now

I got mine off eBay. Think you can purchase one off the muzzy website as well.

Great for knives, not so great on broadheads.

You can do a search on the site FMI. Jason Slocum

I am having some trouble getting my montecs sharp. I have a 600 grit diamond sharpener that should put at least a rough edge on them, but I don't think they would go through a warm stick of butter. my only thought would be that the angle is wrong. Any ideas?

Yeah, it takes off a lot of metal to get to that convex edge. I used my Work Sharp to sharpen the blades from a once-used Slick Trick Magnum (1-1/8") and turned it into a Slick Trick Standard (1") with just one sharpening. Seriously, that's how much it reduced the diameter. At that point, I decided to just keep buying the replacement blades. Broadheads are too important to pinch pennies on.

I use snuffers which are the same design as the montecs. I've heard it's difficult to get the montecs to take an edge but all you should have to do is sharpie the sides of the edges, run it flat on the stone (or paper) drawing backward each time. When all the sharpie is gone, turn it to the next section and so on, then do it with finer and finer grit. Sometimes the bevels they cut at the factory are not exactly the same as the bevels you're cutting at home when running it on a flat stone and you end up not sharpening the actual edge.
