    Law enforcement question/ warning.

I just got a call from a telemarketing firm calling themselves "Credit Card Services" I could tell they were from the DFW area from the hold music. I stayed on the line to get information from them because all my numbers are on every no call list I could find including Canadian.

When the guy answered the phone I could tell that he was not a typical phone sales guy. The first words from his mouth were "What is the account number of your high interest credit card." Of course I did not give him any number & when I started asking questions he hung up. He never even identified himself. I did stay on the phone for a couple of minutes, but his caller ID info showed "Private".

Should I contact my local law enforcement or AT&T? I'm sure it should be reported I'm just not sure to who.

Yea, you should report it to local law enforcement. Someone was definately trying to get your info but you didn't fall for it. Good for you! I dont't know how big a community that you live in, but our town is small and whenever something like this is reported, the PD or sheriffs office will post it in the surrounding newspapers for others to keep a heads up and report any more attempts of this scam. You will prob feel pretty low if this was not reported and others were taken to the bank because they weren't as cautious as you- especially old people who don't know any better. Good luck in getting this resolved.

Call the sheriff or PD right away. You can let them get with at&t and maybe trace that call. Make sure you write down everything you can remember about the call right now before you start forgetting details.

EVEN IF YOU DID CALL THE LAW THEY WILL HAVE NOTHING TO GO BY (#) AND THEY WILL SAY THEY WILL LOOK INTO IT ,THEN WHEN YOU HANG UP THAT PAPER WILL GO STRIGHT IN THE TRASH ,THATS WHAT I THINK.

I think by reporting this it helps people to be aware of similar calls. I agree with Heartbuster there is not a lot the local Police can do in this matter. If this is a big scam nation wide the FBI can then become involved but it will be at their disgression. If local law enfocement does not know about the problem it can not be referred to the FBI. So yes report it, just don't expect the locals to be able to do much. Their resources are limited. Lord knows they have their hands full dealing with all the idiots out there.

If you have not lately, thank a local law enforcement officer these men and women make great sacrifices we do not even know about.

My wife disputed 3 charges on one of our credit cards and when she called the company as recommended by our cc company, the first thing they asked was for the cc number. She told him she didn't give that out over the phone and the guy became nervous and got her off the phone quick.

              Report it.

I have a friend that is a detective here in Burleson. I emailed all the details to him hopefully he can find them or at the very least use the info I have along with that of others to help.

I was not sure if I was just being overly suspicious. It looks like the majority of you would contact the PD as well.

                  dont report it.

dont waste your or the police depts time. there is nothing your local police dept will do.

there was no crime committed at this time.

i would contact my credit card company and have them notify me of any purchases and keep a close eye on all my accounts

As someone earlier said, if you are in a small town the cops will sometimes put it in the paper. That way others in the community will know about it. I see this in my local paper alot, also in the paper were we used to live. I think its helpful. You may even want to call your paper and let them know. Maybe they have someone who will investigate and write it up. Just dont keep it to yourself, get the word out, help your neighbors.

I talked to my friend that is operations commander at the PD. He is going to put it in the paper & recommended telling everyone I know. So I'm working on getting the word out. If any of you are in the DFW area I would appreciate it if you did the same.

                      Thanks for the input.

There's not much the police can do, it's one of a million telephone scams. Even it your number is on do not call lists, if it's listed it's available in a reverse lookup search, always on random automated dialers.

Putting out a word to the wise to others is always worth while, even if it only wakes-up one new person.
